My research delves into the realm of online gender-based violence, with a particular focus on misogynoir in digital spaces and its impact on Black women, as well as Black nonbinary, agender, and gender-variant individuals. I explore how these groups navigate and mitigate harm online. Specifically, I analyze the ways in which Hip Hop artists like Megan Thee Stallion use their performances, music, and social media presence to cope with and reduce the effects of violent online experiences. Drawing on Hip Hop feminist pedagogy, I develop curricula tailored for various academic contexts.
In addition to my work on misogynoir, I investigate the troubling intersection of AI and Technology Facilitated Violence Against Women. My research examines how AI technologies, including deepfakes, are used to perpetuate sexual harm online. I am passionate about finding innovative harm reduction strategies to combat these abuses and support affected individuals.
I am also deeply interested in Black girlhood studies, Black popular culture, and Black digital culture, which further enrich my research and teaching.
